In 2018 Julie and I spent six weeks in Israel traveling the countryside and staying at the Albright Archaeological Institute near the old city of Jerusalem. We decided that we would spend 30 days praying for the peace of Jerusalem and the situation in Israel as we traveled around to see the various biblical sites. So on each day we visited a different locale in the country and each of our visits in this file ends with a prayer. In the process we describe the compelling history and interesting details about each site.
The file begins with an introduction on prayer and why it is important to pray not just in general but for the peace of Jerusalem.
We start in Jerusalem and pray around the walls and gates of Jerusalem. Then we follow the route of Jesus’ last night on earth visiting the last supper locale, Gethsemane, walking the Via Dolorosa, and ending our journey at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
Day 10 begins at Bethphage on Jesus’ Palm Sunday Journey and we travel down the Mount of Olives visiting and praying at the various sites until we arrive at the temple mount and the city of Jerusalem.
Day 18 begins our travels to Bethany, the traditional sites of John the Baptizer, Bethlehem, and Jericho.
Day 21 begins our travels north to Galilee to rehearse the events of Jesus’ ministry in Nazareth, Capernaum, Bethsaida, Chorazin, Magdala, Cana, and Caesarea Philippi. We end our journey on Mount Tabor where Jesus was transfigured in preparation for his glory.
Through these adventures we give the reader a clear idea what it meant to walk in the footsteps of Jesus while at the same time facing the problems of a divided country in the 21st century. Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is as important today as it was in any time in history.
