Matthew Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5-7 narrates the Sermon on the Mount while Luke has the Sermon on the Plain. Luke has the content in three different chapters while Matthew compiles the material into a long sermon.

The first part of this file outlines ten approaches to interpreting the sermon describing the approach, the advocates, the application, and a criticism of the approach. These include the Absolutist View, the Hyperbole View,  the Attitudes, not Acts View, the General Principles View, the Repentance View, the Double Standard View, the Two Realms View, the Interim Ethic View, the Modern Dispensationalist View, and the Prophetic / Pastoral Approach.

The next part of the file includes various outlines of the material in the Sermon on the Mount.

Finally, the last part offers some thinking about the formation of the beatitudes and lists some difficulties in interpreting the Sermon on the Mount.
