Mark Handouts

This lengthy file offers my handouts for a Seminary course on the Gospel of Mark.

Included in this file are twelve different types of outlines of Mark's gospel (pages 2-30) including outlines based upon frames, transitions, chiastic structures, triads or 3 step progressions, geography, kerygma, Hellenistic drama, deep structures, rhetorical structure, the theme of the way, Christology, and discipleship.

Next is a description of the various scholarly approaches employed to interpret Mark (pages 31-39).

Then Markan literary devices are described (pages 40-64) including Markan sandwiches or intercalations, frames, allusionary repetitions, Markan surprises, various forms of mirroring, and irony.

Finally the various sections of Mark's gospel are analyzed (65-193).
